Part 3 of the club story
Part 3:
Whe Caryn woke again her Dad was sitting beside her bed. Mr. Alex had disappeared. "Hello," Caryn mumbled. "What happened?" Her Dad asked, frantically. Caryn desperately wanted to to tell him everything, but Mackenzie would get her and she was no tell-tale. "I f-fell and h-hut my head on a b-bench.." Caryn said, trying to smile, "Clumsy old me, eh?" Her Dad still looked grave. "Caryn, one of the girls from your year called Caria, I think it was, reported that a girl had floored you and kicked you in the head with a pointy high-heeled boot!" Her father exclaimed. "Caria!" Caryn yelled, "Is she alright?" "Yes, of course she is! She had no harm done to her!" He said, and ruffled Caryn's curls. "But she was floored too!" Caryn sobbed. "I should have protected her!" "What?" Her father looked confused. "Caria was kneeling beside you and rocking you when I got to you!" "I must go see her!" Caryn tried to get up but she felt a sharp pain in her head. She felt her head and it was all bandaged up. "What happened to my head?" She asked. "It had a huge bruise and there was a huge cut across the front and the blood!" Dad shuddered, "Your skull is fractured, too." The door swung open and Caria waltzed into the room. "Hiya!" She said, and sat at the end of the bed. Caryn was slipping down the bed. She sat bolt upright and grabbed Caria's collar. "Why didn't you say you were floored too?" Caryn demanded. "Was I?" Caria pretended to scratch her head and think about it, but Caryn saw the twinkle in her blue eyes. "Caria!" Caryn squealed. "Okay, okay!" Caria grinned "Maybe I was floored too!" Caryn sighed, exasperated and lay back. "Were you floored, Caria?" Caryn's Dad enquired. "I was, Mr Downie, but I was fine because Mackenzie didn't kick me in the head." Caria said, and remembered she had said Mackenzie's name and covered her mouth. "Mackenzie who?" Dad said. "Wiseman.." Caryn whispered. "Right!" Her Dad said, jumping up. "I'm going to go phone the school and the police!" Her Dad said, storming out of the room. "No!" Both girls yelled after him, but he was already downstairs. "We're dead meat." Caria sighed. "I know!" Caryn said, and lay back and closed her eyes. Caryn suddenly remembered Mr Alex. "Hey, Caria, was Mr Alex with me at any point today?" Caryn asked. "Yes. He came home with you and stayed with you when your father went out to work again to explain he wouldn't be back in today." She replied. I gasped. Caria noticed. "What is it?" she asked, curious. Suddenly, Dad yelled upstairs to us. "Caria, pet! Your Mum is here!" Caryn blinked. "She's not my Mum!" Caria called back. "She's our cleaning lady running an errand for my dad!" Caryn relaxed. "Well, I'd better go, Caryn! See you soon! Get well!" Caria said, and flounced out of the room. She poked her head back around the door. "And I will find out that secret!" she declared.
